India's villages continue to sustain agriculture, handloom, and craft traditions that form the backbone of our economy. Yet these livelihoods face growing pressure from unsustainable practices, limited opportunities, and increasing migration to cities.
Desi Trust works to strengthen rural communities by supporting sustainable farming, village industries, and traditional skills. By helping villages become more self-sufficient, we aim to reduce forced migration, protect natural resources and keep knowledge rooted where it belongs. Our work also involves addressing long-standing social barriers such as caste, gender bias and deeply held misconceptions that limit collective growth.
For Desi Trust, rural empowerment means enabling villages to move forward without losing their identity.

Women have long sustained traditional livelihoods, often alongside domestic responsibilities and with limited recognition or security. Desi Trust's work with women is grounded in the belief that access to meaningful work, stable income, and supportive spaces can create lasting change.
By enabling opportunities for secondary livelihoods and skill-based work, Desi Trust supports women in building financial agency and a sense of independence. This work goes beyond income, placing equal emphasis on dignity, well-being, and being valued beyond wage labour. For many women, this becomes a source of confidence and pride, especially during periods of uncertainty.
Over time, this stability and self-worth extend beyond the workplace, shaping other aspects of life. Supporting women in this journey remains one of Desi Trust’s most meaningful contributions.

Livelihoods cannot thrive if the land, water and other natural resources they depend on are depleted. For Desi Trust, ecological sustainability is not an abstract ideal, it is a responsibility that guides every stage of work.
We strive to support non-polluting, labour intensive, ecologically sustainable means of production and employment, which is close to nature. We provide our support to women groups, co-operatives, organizations working in the area of natural farming methods, handlooms & handicrafts because we believe that development has to be slow, inclusive and nurturing natural eco-systems.
At a time of accelerating industrialization and environmental degradation, Desi Trust demonstrates that livelihoods can grow without harming ecosystems. By working within natural limits and respecting traditional knowledge systems, ecological sustainability becomes a foundation for long-term economic and social well-being.
